Koluvu Srinivasa Murthy

Koluvu Srinivasa Murthy is also referred to as Lekhana Srinivasa Murthy. It is made up of 5 precious metals, which resemble the idol of Kautuka Beram.

Every day after the morning Tomalaseva, a darbar called Koluvu is held in the Tirumamani Mandapam when the Deity is brought and is seated in a silver chair with a gold umbrella above him. This idol officiates for the main idol during this function. Hence his name is Koluvu Srinivasa.

He is akin to the guardian deity supervises the temple household, and keeps himself posted with all the affairs and revenues of the temple. The panchangam or the calendar of the day is also read out before him every day.

Also called Bali Bera

Though this Koluvu Srinivasa Moorthy has the name of ‘Bali Beram’ (Image) when the ‘Bali Annam’ is placed in all 8 directions of the temple after the Naivedyam in the Ananda Nilayam, this image is not taken out.

He never comes out of Ghanta Mandapam.

It is also here that the matradanam of rice, the customary share of the archakas, is made.

Though He is known as Bali Bera, he has never been known to have been taken out and offered Bali after the daily puja is over.

In the order of preference, the idols that represent the Druva Bera are Bhoga Srinivasa, Malayappa, and His two Consorts, Ugra Srinivasa and Koluvu Srinivasa.

Bali Bera

Every Morning

Every morning Koluvu Sreenivasa Murthy is seated on the golden throne in Snapana Mandapam and an almanac (Panchangam) is read out to him.

After offering Arghya, Padya, Achamanadi Services, Harati will be performed. The Harati will be followed by the Panchanga Sravanam i.e., the year, the Ayana, the Ritu, the month, the paksha, the thithi, and the vara of the day will be announced.

All the details of the day like tithi, nakshatra, yoga, and the information about different sevas are given to him. Then the treasury officer after offering his salutations to God will give details about the previous day’s collection in the hundi, and the total amount received through the sale of Arjitha Seva tickets. Amount received through the sales of prasadams etc.

In this darbar or the court of the Lord, the names of those donors who have donated money for Nityannadana Pathakam - the scheme of feeding the devotees daily - are announced. God listens to those names.

After this procedure, the Archaka receives Matra Danam (16 kilos of rice) on behalf of Koluvu Srinivasa seated on a golden thrown. Expressing their gratitude the Archakas say: ‘Nitya Aishvaryobhava’ i.e., May your wealth increase daily by leaps and bounds.

This will be followed by an offering that is made of roasted gingerly powder mixed with jaggery to Koluvu Srinivasa Moorthy. In the end, Harati is performed.

This is done in Snapana Mandapam before dusk and it is done in Ghanta Mandapam after dawn
