Sri Venkateswara Gosamrakshana Trust is yet another forum that plays a very important role in the protection of cows, which is of paramount importance in Hindu Dharma. The TTD has established a dairy farm called ‘Sri Venkateswara Gosamrakshanasala’ in Tirupati in the year 1956 and formed the trust in 2002 to meet its needs.

Sri Venkateswara Gosamrakshana Trust is established to protect the cow and emphasise the spiritual importance of the cow apart from its economic aspect.

Helping needy

The S.V.Dairy Farm, TTD., Tirupati supplies milk and curd to all the TTD Temples for Rituals, prasadams, Abhishekams etc., and also to the service institutions like

  • S.V.Balamandir (Orphanage),
  • S.V.Deaf and Dumb School,
  • S.V.Training Centre for the Physically handicapped,
  • S.V.Poor Home (Leprosy Hospital),
  • S.V.Vedapatasala,
  • S.V.Oriental College Hostel,
  • TTD Hospitals,
  • “Annadanam” scheme of T.T.D. etc.,

Sri Venkatachala Mahathyam

In ‘Sri Venkatachala Mahathyam’ Lord Brahma became a cow, Lord Siva became a calf and Sri Lakshmi become a Yadava maid and both the cow and calf were sold to Chola king by Sri Lakshmi in a bid to provide milk to meditating Srinivasa in Venkatachalam. There also he protected the cow from the curse of its herdsman.

Cow is the greatest blessing of human race, lands grow rich, homes flourish and civilization advances where the Cow is kept and cared for. The Trust also aims at improving the living conditions of cows outside Goshala by providing technical inputs to the general public.

Donations

Devotees can also help in the protection and propagation of endangered varieties of native cows such as Gir, Sahiwal, Kankrej, Ongole and Punganur, as TTD management has taken up the massive responsibility with the contribution received by this trust.

Privileges to Donors

  1. Donors donating to this trust between Rs.1 lakh and Rs.5 lakh will be allowed for Darshan through ‘Supatham’ for one day in a year (subject to availability) for their family of five persons. They will also get free accommodation for five persons or VIP accommodation on a payment basis once in a year. These privileges will be extended during the lifetime of the donor in the case of individuals or for 20 years, in the case of firms, companies and joint donors.
  2. Those donating an amount between Rs.5 lakh and Rs.10 lakh will get Darshan through ‘Supatham’ for three days in a year (subject to availability) for five members of their family. Free accommodation will be provided for three days or VIP accommodation on a payment basis.
  3. Donors donating an amount between Rs.10 lakh and Rs.1 crore will be provided break darshan for three days in a year (subject to availability) for their family of five persons. They will be provided accommodation for three times in a year at any room with a tariff value of Rs.500.
  4. Those donating Rs.1 crore and above will get VIP break Darshan for three days a year free of cost for their family of five persons. This apart, the donor’s family will also be provided Suprabhatha Seva for any three days other than the VIP break day.

Astamangalaghrutam

Removes bile, phlegm and rheumatism. It tastes sweet, sour, bitter, pungent used to treat diarrhoea or dysentery, helps longevity and virility, reduces mucus, diabetes, nausea and vomiting etc.

Kamadhenu Dantarakshaka Churnam

It cures disorders born of bile, phlegm and rheumatism. It is useful in diabetes, nausea, and joint pains. It also kills worms and protects the liver among others. It tastes sweet, sour, bitter or pungent.

Madhuraarkam

Cures tridoshas, helps in strengthening the joints, removes mucus, treats stomach disorders, jaundice, anaemia etc using it in excess might result in increasing bodily pains.

Hingvadi ghruram

Remedies phlegm, bile, rheumatism cure stomach disorders, kills worms and acts as a remedy in some gynaeic disorders.

Kamadhenu soap

Remedies defects born of bile, phlegm, rheumatism, kills worms, removes mucus besides other disorders.

Cow in the Vedas

During the Vedic age, truth and wisdom were the two fundamental concepts of Dharma. Devotion to the cow is but a part of attaining these. Maharshi Bharadwaja has this to say about the Gosukta in Rigveda:

“Cows are our wealth. To me, cows are like Indra and other gods. The cow is the first gulp of Somarasa. I love with all my heart and mind, the cow, Indra’s representative”

The literal and spiritual meanings of the cow are contained together in the mantra. In the literature of the later day, the Puranas, the smritis, and the dharmasastras, devotion to the cow has been explicitly demonstrated. Killing a cow was seen as a great sin.

Mantra of Gosukta

In the first mantra of Gosukta in Atharvaveda, it is said, “Mata Rudranam, duhitha Vasunam swasadityanam amrutasya nabhih ma vadhista” meaning “The cow is the mother of Rudras, the daughter of Vasus, sister to Adityas, the navel of amrita!… don’t kill the cow”.

Elsewhere in the same sukta, it is said, ‘dhenuh sadanam rayeenam’ meaning “the cow is a repository of all kinds of wealth and prosperity”. In other words, the cow is like a mother to all worldly products.

Rigveda

The cow’s milk, curds, ghee, urine, and dung are called panchagavyas. They are not only nutrients but are also excellent medicines that work miraculously, ambrosia like- “Amritasya nabhih”.

Yajurveda

“Gosamana na vidyate’ – the cow is the only one among the living creatures of the world to be useful from beginning to end.

Samaveda

All things obtained from the cow are sacred. So the cow makes our body, mind and buddhi (discretion) holy and makes our environment, pure (sada gavah suchayah).

Atharvaveda

“Dhenussadanam rayeenam”- the cow is the abode of prosperity. She is the repository of eight kinds of wealth. The peasant becomes wealthy with golakshmi and enjoys prosperity.

Samarthayathi avyardhukah pranapanabhyam bhavathi ya evam veda.

Viewed from a religious and cultural point of view, the cow from time immemorial has been very dear to Indian society as a center of attention and worthy of worship. To a culture like ours for which non-violence is a significant trait, the cow manifests itself as the centripetal pivot.

Besides, it will be realized that the cow stood as the backbone of our socio-economic life. We have recognized the service of the cow and the protection of the cow as a part of our inextricable social aspirations.
