Banyan Tree – Rich in Therapeutic Value

The Banyan tree is pious, divine and filled with several medicinal values. It is called ‘Bahupaada’ because its roots are widespread. It is also called Jatala as it spreads with several branches. It is also known as Nyagroda, Macchaya and Rakthaphala because it spreads horizontally, provides shadow and has red fruits.

In ancient times, businessmen used to take shelter under this tree while travelling on business and hence it got its English name Banyan Tree. Its biological name is ‘Ficus Benghalensis‘. It is also considered our National tree.

The Banyan tree has several medical uses.

Some of them are –

Haemorrhoid

Burn the aerial root trunks of the banyan tree and make it into fine powder. Make it as paste mixing it with gingelly oil. Apply once a day on the haemorrhoids to get rid of pain, burning sensation and shooting pain.

Backache

Dip a cloth in the milk derived from a banyan tree. Stick the cloth to the back and remove it the next day. It will reduce the backache.

Various types of blood motions

Burn the small piece of the trunk of the tree. Make it smooth powder. Dissolve it in plain rice water and consume 50 ml a day to reduce motions.

Head Lice

The Jatamaamsi powder and gooseberry powder are available in Ayurvedic shops. Along with this make powder of banyan aerial root trunks. Apply this powder and rub it at the affected area on the head. New hair will grow.

Growth of Hair

Take one spoon of aerial root trunks powder and gooseberry powder. Mix them in lemon juice. Keep it overnight. Apply on the head and take bath after two hours. It will grow new hair and will relieve dandruff.

Excess Heat in the body

Make powder of dried roots of the banyan tree. Add to this Ati Madhuram powder and Jaggery powder. Take 1 to 2 grams of this powder in 50 ml water every day. It will reduce bile, burning sensation in the stomach and urination and several health problems related to monthly periods of women. Diabetics should not use this medicine.

Wounds burn

Slightly heat the banyan leaves and apply them on cut skin or wounds and burns.

Skin diseases

Banyan leaf shoots to be made into a paste. Apply it on various skin diseases for quick relief. Progeny – Milk from the Banyan tree mixed with palm jaggery should be taken half a spoon twice a day. Thereafter take 100 ml of milk. Chances of childbirth will improve.

Frequent urination

Soak a small piece of banyan tree trunk in 200 ml water at night. Boil it to make it half water. Consume everyday morning to reduce frequent urination.

Cholesterol

Make a powder of banyan leaves and mix it with 100 ml water. Daily consumption of this liquid will improve good cholesterol. Heart-related issues will also be cured.

Leukorrhea in women

Make powder of Banyan trunk. One spoon of this powder mixed with 100 ml of lukewarm milk should be taken twice daily. Follow these tips and get rid of your illness.
