Teppotsavam - Boat Festival – Five day Event

There will be Teppotsavam, for the Lord in the Pushkarini (Holy pond) situated just beside to the temple for five days ending on the full moon day (Poornia ) of Phalguna Month(in the month of March).

These utsavas were in vogue as early as 1468 AD. Tallapaka Annamacharya describes Teppotsavas on a grand scale. Though they were stopped in the course of time, they were, however, restored in 1921.

  • Sri Sita, Rama and Lakshmana participate in these utsavas on the first day, i.e. Phalguna Shuddha Ekadadhu (11th day in Phalguna Month) and
  • Rukini and Sri Krisha on the second day (12th day or Dvadadhu ).
  • Sri Malayappa Swami along with Sri Devi and Bhu Devi participates in them for the remaining 3 days from Trayodashi (13th day) to Punnami (15th day).

On the third day, there will be three rounds followed by five rounds and on the final day, the utsava murtis will be taken out for pleasure ride on the impressively decorated float for seven rounds.

Arjita seva ticket holders who take part in this float festival will have darsan of the Lord after the festival.
